 | Svetlana Stoiceva phoyo) and litclub.bg: „The Game” represents a new mithology of the future as form of the memoryThe first obvious thing to say about the book of Varujan Vosganian’s stories is that it is an artistic retrospective of the traumatic recent past 25 years later: the Securitate’s crimes against humanity, the dead refugees in their escape from the System through the Danube , the bloody “mineriads” of the early 1990s, when Romanian miners from the Jiu Valley were “processed” and thrown against protesters. The book, however, is fed not so much by the fact of this past as by its ugly metamorphoses in the new century (in the first narrative, artistic time is clearly marked); from the painful “denunciations” of human destinies that have occurred before and are happening today. From this point of view, the question asked by the book is whether the recent past is “past” or has “passed” into the new reality and, accordingly, “produces” new storylines – embroiled in history (engaged in democracy building and the search for new historical persons) left for literature.
